damsel in 'distress'

When I was younger,
I would watch all the old black and white movies of girls being rescued by strong men,
wishing I could be like them.
Hiding in the woods and running away.
hoping someone was right behind me saving me.
but everytime i turned around there wasn't a sign of anyone.
